Keeping The Promise Of...
Restoring the
Hoosier Economy
Before September 11, Indiana already faced
a recession. The terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, D.C. did even
more damage to the Hoosier economy and put the rest of the nation into an
economic tailspin. On Capitol Hill, Congress has redoubled its efforts to
provide the type of economic relief and pro-growth policies that mean jobs for
working Hoosiers. I will remain steadfast in supporting these policies, and I am
confident that America will emerge out of this trying period stronger than
before.
The House passed the
Economic and Security Recovery Act to stimulate the economy now, at the time
when we need it most. For a cost of about $160 billion over ten years, we will
get a stimulative effect of nearly $100 billion this year alone.
Prior to September
11, Congress passed President Bush’s sweeping tax relief package putting $1.35
trillion back in the pockets of the people to provide pro-growth capital, which
stimulates the economy.
In my
position as Chairman of a Small Business Subcommittee, I have been working to
break down the regulatory barriers that hinder the success of our nation’s small
businesses. While some believe Wall Street is the key to a strong America, I
truly believe that a strong economy on Main Street is most important to ensuring
our economic success into the 21st Century. I am working in Congress to keep the
businesses on Main Streets across America strong and
successful.
